The Community Youth in Action Network Steering Committees purpose is to help increase public awareness and support of volunteerism amongst youth in the community and promote public participation.

The Community Youth in Action Network Steering Committee is based on the belief that:

• Young people have valuable opinions and ideas
• Young people make great project partners
• Young people should be given the opportunity to take a leading role in issues that affect their lives
• Projects are better when people are having FUN doing them.

Being on the Community Youth in Action Network Steering Committee gives you the opportunity to:

* Develop lots of great new skills

* Work as a team with other young people passionate about getting youth voices heard

* Be involved in some awesome youth projects

* Lead by example in the areas of health, fitness, nutrition and awareness

* Have FUN and be creative

The Youth Steering Committee members are responsible for:

* Meeting monthly.

* Setting the direction of the organization.

* Deciding on the service projects to be undertaken.

* Deciding on areas of interest for community service, ie: poverty, children, seniors, animals and environment.

* Establishing and implementing an annual campaign.

* Assisting with the recruitment of steering committee members.

* Assisting with the review of applications for steering committee membership.

* Reviewing the development of and assisting with the dissemination of promotional materials.

* Assisting with the development and updating of our CYAN website.

* Assisting at annual fundraising events.

* Acting as Champions to the Youth Engagement Movement.

To apply for membership of the Community Youth in Action Network Steering Committee, you need to be:

* Between 13 and 25 yrs of age

* Able to get to service project locations

* Be available for monthly meetings

* Be a “TEAM” player, working in a diverse group of youth

* Be respectful of other youth cultures, religions, and identities

* Be committed for a minimum of one year
