Life Skills Development

Although the schools have mandated 40 hours of community service little direction or guidance is provided. Many youth have little exposure to resume writing, interviewing, the art of networking, conflict resolution, public speaking, project management or any other skill set that would benefit their process of community engagement and volunteerism. As a result, the volunteer opportunities are menial tasks that are both boring and have little benefit to the organization, the community at large or themselves By providing life skills sessions for the youth we can better prepare them for their entrance into an organization, community project and ultimately employment.

The youth will become more proficient working independently or as part of a team. With CYAN acting as a liaison between our youth and existing community organizations we also eliminate the barrier of lack of human resources as we take on the responsibility of evaluating and training the youth. This helps to build the capacity of community service.
